It takes a church to raise a spiritual child ….
God knew that the only way His people would continue to learn of His wonderful acts and divine nature was if His teachings were passed on to the next generation. The Bible reminds us of our need to be actively involved in the spiritual development of our young people.
The Hebrews were reminded:
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)
Paul praised Timothy’s family by noting:
For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. (II Timothy 1:5)
Even Jesus, as a young man, developed in His spiritual walk:
And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (Luke 2:52)
