The Facilitating Our Christian Unity and Service (FOCUS) Project is a church-wide involvement concept that allows people to choose between two types of groups. One type of group is “focused” on a particular ministry; while the other type of group resembles the more traditional “small group” concept.
Two Types of Groups:
FOCUS-Group: A specialty group whose members have expressed an interest in a particular ministry.
Family-Group: General groups whose members do not feel a particular draw to one of the “FOCUS-Groups”. These groups will consist of those who don’t sign-up for a “FOCUS-Group” with an underlying commitment that NO ONE falls through the cracks!
The program is built on multiple cycles throughout the year. Each cycle has specific beginning and ending date.
At the beginning of each cycle, the “FOCUS-Groups” will establish priorities for their group.
At the beginning of each cycle, the “FAMILY-Groups” will develop one area of emphasis they would like to pursue during the cycle. (Examples might include Bible Study, Prayer, Fellowship, Encouragement, Topical Studies, Missions, Visitation).
Each group will have co-leaders to help focus and facilitate the groups.
Each group will have face-to- face meetings at least once a month. The meeting dates will be established within the first couple of weeks of the cycle so they can be published on the calendar and in the bulletin.
All groups will provide updates and information to the congregation so that the church can experience the joys and successes of each group.
Examples Of Our FOCUS Groups include:
The goal of this group is to get the church’s name out into the community. This group will look for opportunities to be involved in Southern Maryland and promote goodwill in the name of our Lord. The concept of this group is built around Galatians 6:10.
The purpose of this group is to do service projects that will benefit the community. This group will actively look for opportunities to serve Southern Maryland and provide workers to accomplish the identified tasks. The concept of this group is built around I John 3:17-18.
The focus of this group is to plan events and activities that edify and uplift members of the congregation. These activities can involve participation by the whole church or might be focused on assisting individual members. The concept of this group is built around Hebrews 10:23-25.
The purpose of this group is to spend dedicated time praying. These “Prayer Warriors” will periodically meet together in times of prayer and will spend individual prayer time focused on needs identified by the congregation. The concept of this group is built around James 5:13-18.
The purpose of this group is to spend time delving into the Word in an advanced Biblical Study. The group will choose a topic of study and spend quality time individually and collectively studying the Bible. The concept of this group is built around II Timothy 2:15.
